What is Pocket RAMM
Pocket RAMM is used out of the office. It enables a user to perform asset maintenance on a netbook, laptop, or tablet. It is also used to perform contract, inventory and claim management while mobile in the field. Pocket RAMM users can enter jobs, perform assessments and inspections standing next to the assets they are dealing with.
Virtually all of the everyday maintenance ability of RAMM Contractor is present in Pocket RAMM.

Pocket RAMM gives your field crew the ability to enter jobs when they are right at the location or asset involved, and to complete jobs immediately after the work has been done. This improves communication and allows for a much greater level of accuracy. For jobs that require a more detailed progress information, work crews can record progress notes as parts of the job are completed. Other benefits are that approval can be sought for a job instantly, via adding a dispatch, taking photos, and while still on site simply making a phone call and having the job approved by the client who can view the newly entered job using RAMM Contractor.
Mobile Access to RAMM Data
Pocket RAMM gives you access to all of your RAMM asset data on the road, thus allowing you to get even more value out of your previously collected and updated data. Don’t collect data on paper and enter it into RAMM back in the office. Pocket RAMM allows you to record data in the RAMM database directly so that others can get access to it once you have synchronised. Once a job is complete all changes to the assets are immediately updated in the RAMM Database. Checking and auditing can then begin for both the contractor and for the client.
Locate with GPS
Pocket RAMM’s built-in mapping and GPS features allow you to find jobs and assets easily. No more do you have to use a trip meter or search along the road. The map shows the road network and other features that surround the job or asset. For jobs you can also easily view the location of the job in relation to your current location as indicated by the GPS device. GPS coordinates are recorded against all assets and jobs added from the Pocket RAMM map. In addition, you can record more accurate GPS coordinates against previously entered data if you have it. When recording GPS coordinates, all of the other RAMM location information (displacement, offset, etc.) is also updated automatically.
Create Estimates and Programme Work
Programming work for future months is easily achieved by entering a job and estimating the quantities to be claimed when the job is complete. The client can approve these estimates from the field or the office.
Create Claims in the Field
When a job is completed with Pocket RAMM claim lines can be automatically added to the job from the field according to some rules that are set up by you. This allows field crew to record the work done without needing to know anything about how the job is being charged. This helps to decrease the amount of data entry required in the claiming process – administration staff now need only review the automatically entered claim lines and then present them for claiming when appropriate. In addition to this automatic claiming facility there is also the optional ability to add claim lines from the field for contract managers, engineers and other staff who have appropriate access permissions.
Rate Condition Standing Next to an Asset
With Pocket RAMM you can now stand next to the real asset in the field and record rating or condition information, eliminating paper forms and making sure you collect the right data.
Pocket RAMM has had a facelift
Pocket RAMM has a new look and feel. The map has been transformed. There’s been a change to the colours and icons. It’s easier to move and zoom on the new map. It’s easier to display information. And it’s easier to find your actions on the new tool bar. There’s been a change around in Settings too. Download and print the new Pocket RAMM booklet here and watch the video here (1:50).
Online or Offline
Pocket RAMM can be operated in Online or in Offline mode. To use Pocket RAMM Online, you must be connected to the internet. Data in Online mode is sent to the RAMM database over the cellphone network. Data in Offline mode is retained in the device until the database is synchronised over either the cell phone network or using WiFi.
So Offline is cheaper to run.

When Pocket RAMM is run using cellphone coverage, any changes are made in real time. As the operator adds Jobs, makes claims and assesses the condition of assets, these are added to the RAMM database over the cellphone network. Operating Offline appears to the user to be almost exactly the same as Online. It is just that data is not transfered to the RAMM database in real time.
Data transfer in Online operation is in real time. However, there may be areas where cell coverage is limited or unavailable. In these circumstances the work crews operate in Offline mode as there is no need for data transfer in real time in Offline mode. The data can be transferred at the convenience of the operator. For instance many cafes and resturants offer free WiFi. Operators have been known to synchronise data over a hamburger and fries. More common is for operators to synchronise data back at the depot using the company WiFi.
When you operate Pocket RAMM Online in addition to incurring data fees from your telecommunications supplier, you will also incur Hosting Service Fees. Hosting Service Fees are dependent on the number of hours per month required for the purpose. More information about these Fees is available here.
Using Pocket RAMM Offline means you are not connected to the internet and means you don’t incur data fees from your telecommunications supplier, nor Hosting Service Fees.
So this one is a no-brainer. Offline mode is generally cheaper as there are no cellphone data nor hosting charges if data synchronisation is performed over WiFi.
Which Device Matches Your Job
Pocket RAMM runs on an internet-enabled device such as a netbook, tablet or laptop. Your job will determine the device best suited to your needs. Working on today’s Network often requires people to use Asset Maintenance applications on hand-held devices. Using RAMM software gives you the ability to meet these demands.
Having the right hardware to match your work needs will make the job easier.

Which of the following two key work Roles within Asset Maintenance are you?
An Inspector is frequently on the Network and is required to assess the Condition of Assets, complete Inspection Sheets or update the Data for the Asset being Inspected. While travel will be a key requirement, there will be a need for the Inspector to frequently complete tasks out of the vehicle which require data to be in hand and readily available. Rugged Devices best fit the needs of this scenario where potential knocks with a changing environment are part of the routine.
We recommend the Panasonic FZ-G1, the Panasonic FZ-M1 or the Panasonic CF-20.

Inspectors and Work Crews patrol the Network on a daily basis to maintain safety by identifying where work needs to be done or complete repairs from a specific allocated Job List. There is normally only a minimal requirement to take the device from the vehicle onto a work site, but it must be sturdy enough to cope with the Team’s daily work routine.
A rugged device would be recommended such as the Panasonic FZ–G1, but due to the nature of the work, a tablet, such as the Windows Surface Pro, in a rugged case could also be considered.

Please note that Tablets, Netbooks and Laptops which use the Android, Apple or Windows Mobile operating systems are not compatible with the Pocket RAMM software.

How Much Does It Cost
The cost of operating Pocket RAMM is determined by a combination of the annual licence fee, the cost of the device on which Pocket RAMM is running, RAMM Hosting Service fees (if any) and telecommunications provider fees (if any). Whether users all have their own device or whether the available devices are shared also affects the cost.
Some of these costs are determined by whether you use Pocket RAMM Online or Offline.

Annual Licence Fee
An annual licence fee is payable for each computing device the software is installed on. This can be a tablet, netbook, or laptop. The licence allows your organisation to set up any number of users on the same device. As the licence fee is per device, there is no extra charge if you set up more than one user on the device.
The Pocket RAMM license is exclusive to each device, irrespective of whether the device is in use or not. An unlicensed device will be unable to use the Pocket RAMM software application under any circumstance.
For more information regarding the annual licence fees payable, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Per Device Not Per Contract or Per Database
A Pocket RAMM licence is not required for each Contract or each RAMM Database that the software is used for. For example, if you have two crew members using separate devices, working on Street Light contracts for three Councils, you require only two Pocket RAMM licences.
The equipment needed to use Pocket RAMM is purchased by you and becomes your property. See the Which Device Matches Your Job and the Devices We Sell sections above for more details.
