What is a Firewall

What is a firewall?

A firewall is placed between you and the outside world so that all internet traffic comes in through the firewall and goes out through the firewall. Given this is the only way in or out, the firewall can then be setup to stop unwanted traffic from entering or leaving your network. It is therefore very important to allow the hosting traffic through your firewall but keep in mind that it is outgoing traffic only (i.e. traffic that you initiate from inside the firewall) that needs to be let through.
